How to Choose FDM Filament

FDM is the most widespread 3D printing technology with a wide range of filaments. Choosing the right material is the first step.

PLA

  • Print temp: 190-220C
  • Features: easy to print, no odor, glossy surface
  • Strength: moderate, somewhat brittle
  • Best for: beginners, appearance models, display pieces

ABS

  • Print temp: 230-260C, heated bed required
  • Features: impact resistant, heat resistant, acetone-smoothable
  • Strength: good, tough
  • Best for: functional prototypes, automotive parts, enclosures

PETG

  • Print temp: 230-250C
  • Features: PLA ease + ABS toughness, chemical resistant
  • Strength: good, tough
  • Best for: functional parts, food-contact, outdoor parts

TPU Flexible

  • Print temp: 210-230C, direct drive extruder needed
  • Features: Shore A 85-95, elastic
  • Best for: phone cases, seals, shock absorbers

Carbon Fiber Reinforced

  • Base: PA/PLA/PETG + chopped carbon fiber
  • Features: high rigidity, low warping, matte finish
  • Best for: jigs and fixtures, drone frames
